In 2015, the iBerry Study was launched to gain insights into social, emotional, and behavioral development during adolescence.
This longitudinal cohort study tracks 1,022 adolescents from the Rotterdam Rijnmond region in the Netherlands. Participants were recruited from the general population in collaboration with Child and Family Center Rijnmond, with intentional oversampling of adolescents reporting increased emotional and behavioral problems.
The study is designed to span a decade, inviting participants for follow-up assessments every two to three years. These assessments include interviews, questionnaires, neuropsychological tests, and biological measurements to investigate determinants of psychopathology.
In 2024, the second follow-up phase concluded, with participants reaching approximately 20 years of age. Currently, the 22-year's wave is ongoing, extending the study's scope to early adulthood and providing critical insights into the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
The iBerry cohort has successfully supported the completion of three PhD theses, with seven additional projects currently ongoing. Results and publications from the study can be accessed here, and further information is available on our website.
