Biographical sketch


Fleur gratuated as a medical doctor at the university of Groningen in 2006, after which she started working as a MD and researcher at the psychiatric institution Mediant in Enschede and Hengelo. She is currently working on her PhD thesis on a research about aggression and the use of seclusion and restraint in psychiatry and reducing both (aggression and the use of seclusion and restraint) by means of the comfortroom and the engagement model.

Research interests


The research focuses on the relation between aggression and seclusion and restraint in psychiatry, predictors of both such as age, gender and diagnoses, the intervention of preventing them both, the attitudes of nurses towards seclusion and restraint, and risk assesment of aggression. The engagement model concerns about engagement, hospitality, respect, safe environment all to enhance the healing process in a (psychiatric) ward.
