Biographical sketch


Mijke van den Berg received her medical degree from the University of Amsterdam (1997), her psychiatric training from the Department of Psychiatry, Erasmus MC (2004), her master in Genetic Epidemiology from the NIHES (2005) and her training in child & adolescent psychiatry from the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Erasmus MC – Sophia (2006). She received a PhD degree within the Generation R Study on ‘Parental psychopathology and the early developing child’ (2006).
From 2004 she is staff psychiatrist at the Department of Psychiatry and from 2008 also in combination with an appointment as child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Erasmus MC. She combines her clinical work as a psychiatrist and child & adolescent psychiatrist within the fields of peripartum psychiatry and infant psychiatry.

She is founder and chairman of the Netherlands knowledge centre of peripartum psychiatry (www.lkpz.nl).

Research interests


Mijke van den Berg has a special interest in transgenerational aspects of psychopathology, with a focus on peripartum psychiatry, genetic epidemiology and parent-child interaction/attachment in parents with a psychiatric disorder. She is also involved in the Generation R study. (www.generationr.nl).
